Supplies

  • 1 1/2"x44" strip of print fabric cut on the bias
  • 22"-long piece of 6/32" cording
  • All-purpose thread
  • Hand sewing needle
  • Safety pin
  • Tube turner, chopstick or knitting needle

Construct

Fold one bias strip end 1/2" toward the wrong side; press. Fold the strip in half lengthwise with right sides together; press. Stitch the long edge.

Turn the tube right side out using a tube turner, chopstick or knitting needle.

Stitch back and forth along each cording end several times to flatten. Pin a safety pin through one cording end, anchoring the pin through the stitching lines.

Insert the safety pin through the tube folded end.  Use the pin to guide the cording through the tube, gathering the fabric slightly to expose the cording ends.

Remove the safety pin. Overlap the cording ends and stitch back and forth across the ends to secure.

Insert the tube raw end 1/4" to 1/2" into the tube folded end, aligning the seams.

Slipstitch the tube ends along the fold, concealing the raw end.

Distribute the gathers along the cording, as desired.
