Hand Embroidery Stitch Guide

Construct

Position the small templates over one towel right side along the lower third portion of the towel. Position the remaining partridge templates over the remaining towel right side along the lower third portion of the towel. Use a removable fabric marker to transfer the designs to each towel.

Hoop one towel, centering as many bird designs in one hooping as possible.

Thread the needle with three strands of dark blue embroidery floss; knot the floss end. Bring the needle up through the towel wrong side along the bird body. Straight stitch along the bird body. After the last stitch, leave the floss on the towel wrong side and weave the end through the previous stitching. Repeat to stitch each bird body using dark blue floss.

Stitch a French knot at each dot using dark blue floss.

Thread the needle with three strands of light blue embroidery floss; knot the thread end. Stitch the bird feathers using a chain stitch. Begin and end the stitching as for the bird body. Stitch a French knot at each bird eye using light blue embroidery floss.

Thread the needle with three strands of lime green floss. Satin stitch the bird beak and chest, knotting each thread end.

Remove the towel from the hoop; press from the wrong side around the embroidery.

Repeat to embroider the second towel.
