Attention high school fashionistas! Are you sewing your own prom dress this year? If so, you could win $50,000 (!) for college in the 2010 Jo-Ann Prom Contest. Aside from the awesome benefits of being able to customize your dress perfectly and knowing that no one will show up in the same ensemble, that’s some serious cash! This year, the contest theme is “Own Your Look,” emphasizing how fun and simple it is to express your personal style through sewing. Proving just how easy it is, Jo-Ann used the same pattern to create three distinctly different prom looks: “Alternative Chic, ” “Glitzy Glam” and “Classic Elegance.”

To enter the contest, you must provide both a garment and an accessory, so Jo-Ann has tons of free accessory project downloads, including jewelry, purses and more, to get you started. I especially like the “Alternative Chic” purse. Very cool!

All entries must be submitted by June 22, so you better get stitching! For more information on the contest, as well as full rules, go to joann.com/prom. Best of luck!

What if you lost your receipt from when you bought the fabric?

Hi Lydia,

When I went to the Joann 2010 Prom Contest page, I was only able to view the back of my dress and I do not understand why.
