Day 11 Giveaway: Win The Gentle Art of Quiltmaking!

We loved reading your responses to yesterday’s question: What was the first garment you ever sewed? To add my answer to the bunch, my first garment was an extremely easy one-seam elastic-waist skirt made from red floral print fabric, of which I was absurdly proud. Thanks to everyone for participating! Our Day 10 winner is Betsy K., who said:  “The first garment i ever made was a camp style shirt with my mom…it was a border print of sailboats. I think I was about ten at the time. I loved that shirt! I’m lucky, my mom (now 80) still sews and acts as my mentor.” Awww, that’s great, Betsy! We hope that you and your mom enjoy The Sewing Bible-Clothing and continue making many more garments together!

For Day 11, we have the lovely book The Gentle Art of Quiltmaking: 15 Projects Inspired by Everyday Beauty to give away to one lucky winner. Whether you’re an established quilter or have been wanting to give it a try, this book has great ideas, helpful tips and inspiring photography. Now, I know that many sewists don’t quilt and vice versa, but there are also plenty of us that like to dabble in many creative pursuits. So, to enter to win today’s prize, we’d like to know: How do you identify yourself? Sewist? Seamstress? Fabric Artist? Crafter? Designer? Quilter? Something else entirely? I am a seamstress. I dabble in quilting now, just started a few blankets for grandchildren.
I started sewing when I was in the 8th grade, first project in class was a sleveless dress. I have been sewing ever since …I have 6 daughters and have sewn everything from bathing suits to wool coats, wedding dresses and formal wear, and their school clothes. Alterations came along with the sewing and I couldn’t leave my son out of the loop.
I have sewn for others including uniforms for a drill team and formal wear.
