Whether or not you care who won last night at the Golden Globes, it’s fun to spot trends and make your picks for best and worst dressed. Seeing fresh colors, silhouettes, embellishments and design details can also be a great jumping off point for sewing inspiration.
Here are the top five trends I noticed from last night’s fashion frenzy. For closer views and complete coverage, check out this slideshow. And be sure to let us know in the Comments section which ones you love and which ones have got to go!
1. Going Green: Several attendees, including mega-stars Angelina Jolie and Catherine Zeta-Jones opted for shades of emerald.

3. Belt it Out: Many leading ladies chose to show off their whittled middles with belted dresses.

4. Glimmer & Shimmer: There’s always some sparkle at award shows, but last night the crystals, sequins and stones graced many gowns from head to toe.

5. Off Balance: Asymmetrical necklines and hems have been around for a few seasons, but it looks like they’re going to continue to be a strong trend.

For the ultimate in asymmetry, the always-“interesting” Helena Bonham-Carter opted for two different-colored shoes. Yikes!

When does Nichole Kidman ever look less than fabulous? Classic taste is always a winner.
Love the green, the glamour, the glitz, and the classicly beautiful dresses, so many were so beautiful, but I hate the belts and the wierd, designed for shock value. Belts ruin a nice svelte line, wierd designs are just foolish.

the dark , hunter green is gorgeous. I so want that to come back in style in a big way!!!
I really liked Mila Kunis and Anne Hathaway’s dresses. I like Eva Longoria’s but the “train” is a bit much – and she is so small looks kinda like it swallowed her. there are plenty of “what were they thinking” in the gallery too!
