So long!

Hello everyone,

Today is my last day here at Sew News magazine. My husband accepted a position in San Diego, CA, which means that early next week we will begin a new chapter in our lives. It’s been a pleasure working for this publication and bringing the joy of sewing into your home. As the world makes technological gains, and daily tasks become easier, faster, and more instant, it’s nice to get back to basics and sew.

I love sewing because it teaches us values that we can apply in our everyday lives. Sewing teaches us patience when something goes wrong and we have to use our trusty seam ripper to rip out stitches. I’ve been there many times, with frustrated tears in my eyes. I’ve learned to walk away, regroup, and come back with a positive attitude. Sewing teaches us humility when people can’t stop complimenting a bag or garment we made. And sewing reminds us that despite being our own worst critics, we should always be proud of ourselves and our accomplishments, no matter how big or how small.

One of my favorite mantras is “The more you do, the more you are able to do.” It means that the harder you work for something, the more success you’ll find. I carry these words with me in my professional and personal endeavors, and I know that this new step in my life is just another opportunity to do more. I hope you continue to sew, and I hope you teach the next generation how to sew. I don’t know where I’ll end up, but I do know that I’m a lifelong sewist. Thank you for allowing me to be part of your lives.

Sincerely,

Kari Bjordahl
