ASG Conference Day 2: Vintage Inspiration

cd 231x300 ASG Conference Day 2: Vintage Inspiration

I had a great full day of classes the ASG Conference today! Last night’s fashion show featured some very stunning garments, so I was already inspired to learn and absorb today. I’m a huge fan of vintage styles and patterns, so I really loved Christine Haynes‘ (author of Chic & Simple Sewing) class on Vintage Inspiration. We looked at photos of various style icons, such as Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe and Catherine Deneuve (my personal favorite, pictured above wearing a gorgeous pea coat on the set of Belle du Jour) and evaluated modern patterns that would help capture the essence of their timeless looks. Now I’m really inspired to sew up some ’50s-inspired coats and dresses to my fall wardrobe. Christine is also working on starting her own line of patterns, and you can help her reach her goal here.

Are you inspired by vintage clothing? Who’s your favorite style icon? Share in the Comments section below!

Audrey Hepburn, she’s absolutely stunning. Katharine Hepburn wore a mean pair of pants.

I would love to make a few pieces based on some of the classic and vintage styles!
