I use stabilizer on all my embroidery projects. I put names on towels and blankets, I decorate t shirts, most anything. I have also used stabilizer when I did some decorative stitching on fabric or felt. I even use little pieces when I am putting in buttonhole. I put it behind the garment edge to help keep things moving like they should. I sometimes use a scrap when I topstitch a collar or cuff — it keeps the corners from going down in the needle plate.
