Welcome to Monday! I hope you were ready for it. And I hope it being Day 9 of our 13 Days of Giveaways makes it a little more bearable.
Yesterday we asked, “Do you use commercial patterns, draft your own or a combination of both?”

Thank you for all your responses! It sounds like a lot of you work from commercial patterns to get the basic outline, then alter for fit and style details. Today, TWO lucky winners were chosen to receive a copy of The Colette Sewing Handbook: Inspired styles and classic techniques for the new seamstress by Sarai Mitnick (Krause Publications, 2011).
And those TWO lucky winners are: Nicholson Massie and Kim Cady!
(Get extra pattern tips from Sarai in her episode, “Pattern Play.”)
Congratulations, winners! Email info@sewitalltv.com with your mailing address to receive your prize!
Today we’re giving away a copy of Christine Haynes‘ book, Chic & Simple Sewing to TWO lucky winners!! The book shows you how to make modern, stylish and fun clothes you’ll want to wear every day. You also get full-size patterns to make the more than 20 garments, including a classic shift, A-line skirt, and figure-flattering wrap dress.
(Check out Christine’s episode and learn to make a raincoat from a shower curtain: “In the Trenches.”)

I was watching a sewing show that I always watch left the tv on, left the room, when I returned Sew it all tv was on, I”ve watched it eversince. Love it!
I found Sew News in a fabric store (many, many years ago). I picked up Sew it All the same way. Our PBS station doesn’t carry it, so I have never been able to watch the show. I’m a sewing/quilting magazine junkie. I read both of these from cover to cover.
I have been a Sew News subscriber for years – way back when the magazine was in the large format. How many remember that?? Read about Sew It All in the magazine and knew that if it was associated with Sew News, it had to be good – and it is. Thanks for all you do, and for my many years of enjoyment in the sewing experience through your pages of lessons, tips and “socializing” with others who love sewing as much as I do.
I’ve been a Sew News subscriber for a while.
My Wife. I listened to her bug the local PBS program person til he gave in and put the show on the air.
Found sew news in a store years ago and subscribed. Still have every issue. Try to watch any sewing show i can find for ideas and inspiration. There isnt enough on tv. Too far n few. Wish we had a station dedicated to just sewing.
Well, I was looking for information on good fabrics to use to make microwavable heat packs. Somehow I stumbled upon a link to Sew News and while the page wasn’t available, I started poking around and really really like what I’ve seen! I’m new – as in, I bought a 30$ tiny sewing machine off Amazon and am having an absolute blast just sewing together everything I can find, and making a cute, but obviously homemade blanket/quilt for me incoming cousin in May. Sew News has definitely been added to my bookmarks!
I was at the library looking at magazines & saw Sew News. I checked it out & was immediately hooked! I wished my pbs had Sew it All.
I learned of your site through a comment in an email that came through my inbox from Jen Eskridge on your episode #311. So, I’m visiting and saw the giveaway.
I first saw Sew News magazine about 30 years ago at a fabric store. I found Sew It All magazine at Hancock Fabrics. When I found out that there was going to be a TV show, I called my local PBS station and requested they air it — and they had it on shortly thereafter.
I took a local class at the high school, (some I don’t know how long ago,) and the teacher recommended it.(When the Sew News was big like a newspaper. )I have kept all of my copies. Love it, and wouldn’t give it up. I have taped my sewing shows on IPTV for years. Love the Sew It All tv shows!
My mom got Sew News when I was a kid.

I found it randomly at my local newsstand, and then found the wonderful online community! It’s been a wonderful group of people!
I found the show ont tv – and my love for all things related from there.
My husband liked to watch the wood shop show. One day he turned the tv on early and Sew It All was on. I have been hooked to the show ever since. I really enjoy getting up on Saturday, just to watch the show and get some great sewing ideas.
Thanks
