Trapeze and babydoll dresses are easy peasy, but for me, a good fitted, boatneck dress is worth its weight in gold. I know many of you enjoy sewing for children and grandchildren; do you make adorable frilly dresses for them? Every body and every sewist is different–what’s your preference?

Floor length, with pockets and short sleeves….doesn’t matter the style as long as those criteria are met
I love to sew frilly ruffly dresses with hand made rosettes for my grand neices!

I do not have a favorite dress pattern for an adult because I am a newer sewer of cloths for adults. I have sewn tons of dresses for children but once they need more fitting I am just not skilled enough – that’s why I would LOVE to win Colette’s sewing handbook. I love learning!

I like to make princess style dresses with front seams as they are easy to alter for all sizes and shapes.

Princess seaming makes for simple lines and ease in fitting. The last dress i made was a very cute prom dress for my daughter. She looked great !! Would love to win the book and patterns to learn more techniques!
I love making a sheath with a boat neck and darts that make it fit correctly and I can use all kinds of embellishments.

I like simple sundresses with a little jacket.
Favorite dress for me: sheath. They are flattering and not too hard to make them fit well. My odd shaped body means I can’t buy any in the store. I don’t think the commercial ones fit very many people because you don’t see them on others often, sad, because they look so good on anyone. I don’t make children’s clothing. It is too easy to buy very cute things for them at a reasonable price (Gymboree on sale).
That would depend if I were sewing for an adult or a child….for adult, fitted with princess seams and full ‘skirt’ [I do not like sheath dresses or tailored suits]….for a child, Peter Pan collar, puff sleaves with band, buttoned back, sash, very full skirt with 4 inch hem.
that’s an easy one…sleeveless (i have great arms) boat-neck to go with my short hair and slim-fitting 2 inches above my knee with a small slit in the back….Audrey Hepburn style…of course!!
I love to sew the fifties style dresses. The June Cleaver style looks so nice on so many figures!
Basic cap sleeve shift type….to be worn with lots of other creative project vests and jackets. Basic skirt/top are second on the list!

I love pillowcase dresses for my daughter. So simple!
I love sewing peasant dresses for little girls. I mix fabrics and add ruffles. I also like to customize the sleeves with shirring or just different lengths. It gives me some flexibility to create different and unique dresses!
The last dress I made was for a friend. She was the mother of the bride and couldn’t find what she wanted. Beautiful silk dupioni.
It has been years since I made dresses. When I did I think I liked sleeveless dresses in the summer. Otherwise, I learned early on to sew co-ordinates.
I haven’t made a dress yet but would one day I hope to make my own vintage inspired swing dress
. The book looks great, especially the fact that it includes 5 patterns would be so helpful for a beginner like me.
I love sewing little girl dresses with ruffles and bows! Lots of cute fabric combinations and buttons-the choices are endless!! For myself I choose sundresses or dresses that have a bit of the feminine flair-fuller skirts, little bit longer, unique necklines.
I like a dress that buttons up the front.
I enjoy making more tailored fitted dresses.
I’m very short waisted, so I sew dresses that are sheaths and have no really noticible waist line. I also have a long measurement from my shoulder to bust so dresses with lower necklines and hems at my knee.
I love midcalf sundresses, less fitted the better.
I have been sewing back to school dresses for our grand daughters. I love using the embroidery machine to embellish the hems and pockets.
WOW, I haven’t made any dresses in years! I sewed my daughter a few sun dresses when she was growing up. I think I need to start on some of those for when she gives me a grand daughter……She gave me a grandson and I don’t think he would appreciate a dress,! lol
I prefer a two piece skirt and top rather than a dress. Makes my wardrobe go further!
I’ve never made a dress. But I signed up for a Craftsy class, so hopefully I’m going to learn how.

I just love creating and seeing beautiful material transform into wearable and unique outfits irrespective of the style, but obviously my pattern choices suit my figure and lifestyle, favorite at the moment, classic crossovers.
I haven’t made a dress in years. Last one I made my husband said made me look fat. It got donated & haven’t made another since. I used to make princess style because they are flattering on me.
I would say a sun dress and princess style. Easier to hide body issues!
A simple shift dress that can be dressed up or dressed down.
I love making a dress with a fitted bodice and full, floaty skirt. They require a lot of fitting, sewing, and of course fabric, but the finished product is so worth it—especially on those days where I fear nothing will look good on me. A full-skirted dress is the perfect cure for such days…especially if it’s in a novelty print.

Any dress is fine. I really liked it when my girls came to me for their grad and prom dresses. Any style, any material, and any pattern. Everybody has different opinions on what looks good on them, and then we just create…. Thanks for another giveaway.
I like versatile items where you can wear it with flats for a cas look or dress it up with jewlery and pumps. stretch knits work the best for these projects.
I am currently finishing up a dress for my neice’s toddler. It has orange and yellow flowers with an orange coat and hat. I have been having a blast making this since I had 3 boys and they just don’t look good in orange and yellow flowers.
The last dress I made was for my high school graduation and that was decades ago. Time to make a new one!
My absolute favorite dress style to design and sew are wedding dresses. My goal with each dress I make is to take the ideas from the bride-to-be and turn them into reality.
Love princess-seam dresses! So easy to alter for curves!
A-line with princess seams is my fave to sew because they are easy to tailor, but I love vintage style with fitted busts & full skirts!
I like 20th century vintage/retro inspired dresses.

To answer the question, I prefer dresses that have a fitted waist and darts but extends full or I like them very fitted A-line with darts for a more define classic look.
