You may remember from the Apr/May ’12 issue of Sew News that Miles, Queensland, Australia, is the Tea Cozy capital of the world. This year, a World Tea Cozy Making Competition was held. The competition judges the best tea cozies in four categories, Knit/Crochet, Embroidery (hand or machine), Novelty, and Pink/Red (for breast cancer & heart health awareness). (The entered Tea Cozies are then sold, and the money given to charities at the discretion of the Miles Regional Arts Council Inc. For more information, see milesrac.org.) Each category winner received $200, and the Grand Champion won an extra $300.
And the results are in! The competition received over 100 entries from all over the world, with 8 from the U.S.!
Category 1 – Knitting &/or Crochet:
Mary Reilly, Qld., Aust.
Category 2 – Embroidery (quilting etc. hand or machine)
Maureen Coward, Northampton; U.K.
Category 3 – Novelty:
Kaye Whitney, Vic., Aust.
Category 4 – Pink or Red:
Renate Kirkpatrick, Qld., Aust.
GRAND CHAMPION
Category 4 – Pink or Red = Renate Kirkpatrick
