We’re nearing the end of our fantastic 12 Days of Giveaways–but don’t worry, you still have four more days to enter, including a fabulous extra-enormous giveaway for 12 winners on Friday! Stay tuned! Yesterday we asked what your sewing resolution for 2013 is, and the lucky winner is Melissa, who said: “My resolution is to learn applique and reverse applique well enough to put my own spin on it!” That sounds like a great technique to tackle, and we hope you enjoy the fun calendar!
Today we have a great prize–a veritable smorgasbord of batting, fusible web and more from The Warm Company. The sampler includes 13 samples of Warm Company products to play with, including Warm & Natural, Steam-a-Seam and Warm Fleece. Just think of all the fun you’ll have trying them out! For a chance to win, answer the following question in the comments section below: What sewing tool or notion is your sewing secret weapon? What tool do you turn to for great results?
Enter by tomorrow morning, when we’ll choose a lucky winner at random–good luck!

I love my rotary mat and cutter and also my magnetic pin dish – I love being able to lock my “scissors” and clean up spilled pins with my little helpers around quickly & easily!
Thank you for the giveaway opportunity!
My imagination (my 3rd Eye) is the best tool I have for making my embroidery and sewing projects turn out just right. So many times I have heard, “This is perfect! How did you know she liked———-?” It’s a gift.
My favorite tool is my imagination. Oh, the things I can create in my mind. Now if I could just complete all the things I can dream up. LOL
The tool I use most often is a seam gauge. I have kept one in my sewing box for years. Being very short, I am always hemming everything. Pants and sleeve cuffs especially. It also comes in very handy when I need a very precise seam ..or measuring buttonholes. Whenever I give a sewing basket as a gift I always include one as a staple. To me its very important.
Favorite? Oh, how to pick just one???? Gotta be the seam ripper
My light up seam ripper:)
The tool I rely on most is the right needle for the job you’re doing, good tension and a haute pair of dollar store reading glasses so I can see every stitch I make!
My greatest tool is my sewing machine! I know this seems obvious, but I have recently purchased a new machine and it is heavenly!
I quite use & love my open-toe foot, esp for applique, since it makes it so easy
to see clearly what’s right in front of your needle. Besides that, my good steam iron is something I couldn’t do without, no matter what I’m sewing, quilting, or embroidering. Using it every step of a project makes the end result so much better in appearance.
“Press for success.”
A good pair of scissors is my go to tool.
My cutting matt and rotary cutter or good scissors. What ever the task requires.
My secret sewing weapon is a pair of chopsticks! They are perfect for collar points or anything that needs turning out. And you get them for free from Chinese restaurants!
I so want to be GREAT at embroidery but I’m not even close yet. This would help.
My favourite tool or notion is my iron, it plays a part in every aspect of my sewing
For me it is my iron. I always press as I go even it the garment nevers feels the heat of the iron again.
My secret weapons are 3 different sized awls made for me by a friend who is a master knife maker. I sometimes wonder how I constructed anything properly without them.
My secret weapon when hemming jeans is called a Jean A Ma Jig. It makes going over the side seams super easy! And I have to keep my seam ripped close by at all times for general sewing. I use it to hold things down, pick out pieces of thread or cloth and, of course, remove stitches when needed! It’s a real lifesaver at times.
i turn to my scissors and mind to come up with new things
Double sided tape is my new favorite trick. If that doesn’t work, a glass of wine is helpful!
For me, it would be my rotary cutter and map, after I finally learned how to use them and than ……everyone that sews could not do without a seam ripper for reverse sewing.
My favorite tool to keep next to me is a “GOOD” pair of snips (scissors). I love a small pair with me at all times.
My rotary cutter, I don’t leave home without it!
Love the embroidery part of my sewing machine. Even when I quilt I usually do it the machine embroidery.
My husband. When I was finishing embroidering the bottom of a pair of blue jeans the hoop popped. He sat there with a seam ripper and did the ribbit for me. He has a lot more patience than I do. He has taken other things apart for patterns too.
my Alto’s Quilt cutting board. was a Christmas gift a few yours back and it is priceless.
