Tie One On Day (… an apron, of course!) is proud to announce the eighth anniversary of a unique holiday tradition commemorating compassion and generosity. Recognized by Chase’s Calendar of Events, Tie One On Day, celebrated on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving (November 27, 2013), calls upon people across the country to give from the heart on Wednesday through an act of kindness, and then give thanks on Thursday. Participants share their good fortune by wrapping a baked good in an apron or other cloth and tuck in an encouraging note; then deliver their offering to someone who could benefit from a gesture of kindness. Established by EllynAnne Geisel, best-selling author of The Apron Book, Tie One On Day honors America’s historical linkage to sharing through two of humanity’s most treasured assets: words and bread.
“The act of writing a note and delivering it with an offering is an expression of kindness itself. And bread is the ultimate expression of this, because it is the basic comfort food,” says Geisel.
