I am currently sewing dog beds for a local shelter. They had their roof collapse recently due to the snow and wet weather and lost many items in their kennel area, no dogs were harmed but beds and other soft items were destroyed. This is a project that I am actually doing with coworkers, one of whom has a husband that is making framing for the dog beds from PVC pipes, so the beds are elevated about an inch or two off the concrete floors.

I have decided to start learning to sew last month at the tender age of 47. I am enrolled in my local college’s fashion certificate and took the first course, the basics of garment construction. As such, the two projects I am working on are a simple top with a choice of three necklines and a A-line skirt with a waistband, zipper and inside seam pockets. Things are coming along well with my samples but I have to say that I am far from being in love with zippers, lol!

  12. M. Jane C. says:

I am making a shabby chic rag quilt for my niece, soon to be a Sadie, as in Sadie, Sadie married lady. I have stepped it up a bit by adding a scalloped edge. After that I am making a knit wrap dress to wear. Last night I made six bed buddies. We use these instead of turning on the heat.

  13. My next sewing project will be a spring blazer for my granddaughter, no wait … sundress … no wait … rompers. You get the idea? First I have to get this #$% bargello quilt top stitched together.

She will be the first grandchild on both sides of the family.

  29. Belle Plummer says:

I have three things going right now – two wedding quilts and a wall hanging for a very good friend. Oh yes, two poodle purses for my husband’s secretary’s granddaughters. Now do I do these fun projects or try to catch up on the hemming projects for my mom and my husband first?
