In the April/May issue of Sew News the Off the Shelf column featured Choly Knight’s Sewing Stylish Handbags & Totes.  Knight’s book is packed with ideas for making your own stylish handbag or tote plus you will get expert guidance on picking fabrics, hardware and detailed how tos and instruction. This book is filled with over 50 bags to make plus full size patterns are included. It’s great for the sewing newbie as well as sewists that are more advanced and need a little inspiration.

And, really can we every have too many sewing books? I think not.

    I like a big tote because I often carry a lot of stuff just in case I need them.

    Whatever I carry has to have pockets, pockets and more pockets! Organization for glasses, keys, pens, lip gloss and phone. I hate digging in the bottom trying to find something! So the size would be medium to large.

    I love all bags, the bigger the better as well as the smaller the better. Big bags hold medium and small bags. they can be swapped out daily-or more often then that.
    yes, I am a bag lady and they are all fabulous.

    I love handbags so much that I started making them a few years ago! My favorite style is anything with a shoulder strap. It makes life easier because I’m a new mom and always need both arms to hold the baby. My favorite styles are hobo bags, totes, and convertibles, as long as they have that long shoulder strap.

    I am new to sewing and subscribe to Sew News magazine, and watch Sew It All on pbs channel 11, Chicago. Like Ellen March first tried, I too am trying to sew a tote bag without a pattern! Sewing Stylish Handbags and Totes would surely come in handy! I hope I win a copy.

    I love a cross body purse that is roomy enough for a mom’s essentials and the strap is long enough for me 6’1″ :)

  12. I love bags…my friends call me The Bag Lady as I love to make many of my own bags. That way I can have the right size pocket or a zipper on the top or the color I want. I am beginning to like cross body bags.

    I got into making bags so that I could make one that was just the right size to carry what I needed… no bigger. I would love some inspiration to re-ignite my true sewing passion: bags! This book would surely do the trick!

    I love big bags for daytime, you never know what you’ll need and big bags can carry it all! I love small bags for evenings out when you just need the basics and must be able to hold my iPhone!

    Bags of all sizes is my “BAG”, If I don’t have a bag with me I feel undressed. For security lately, especially shopping, I choose the cross body bag. I’ve also been known to keep a large quilted bag in the trunk of my car with everything in it, & take a smaller bag from it when I go visiting. Thank you for this opportunity.

    I am looking for the perfect bag…decided the perfect bag depends on what you are doing that day. Some days it is very small and other days it is very large with many little pockets and bags to carry other things. Haven’t made one to carry the kitchen sink YET! Haven’t found a pattern yet that I didn’t make adjustments to meet my needs.

    My favourite type of bag depends on the purpose. For everyday, I like to a medium size bag. I live to sew all kinds of bags and have made small, medium and large bags. I am always on the lookout for a great bag pattern!

    I adore handbags, purses, totes, you name it! My favorite type has to have enough pockets for me to find things easily, long enough straps to carry over the shoulder, small enough to fit under my arm, but big enough to hold all my stuff, and certainly something unique decorations wise that will make it stand out and declare ‘it is MY bag’ :)

    I have made the large Amy Butler Birdie Sling bag for my daughter and nieces. Loved the way this bag went together and the easy of making a bag. That was several years ago. Receiving this book will be great inspiration to create more bags.

    I tend to go with a medium size bag. I love the fabric bags. I worked at an amusement park where you dressed old country. We could not carry new leather or chic style purses. Therefore I got used to carrying a cloth bag. It’s very hard to go back to a leather purse, they seem too heavy.

    Since Im a mum “on the go” and selfemployed (just on the spot to become a fashiondesigner) for most I like bigger handbags that fits all my books, pleasure ones and studybooks, kidsstuff, make up, snacks, phone and diffrent types of handicraft ( knitting, embroidery) and sketchpad, pens and rubber ( you never know when inspiration hits you) and my camera.
    Bags is actully one of the pieces I´ll start to sell (as soon my company are approved and clear) and this book sounds like a perfect match with were I am in life <3 I love bags :)

  50. I like a good tote bag. I always need knitting project,a book, a handful of pens and a notebook. And then you have to have all the usual things too…
