Halloween is my mental block, friends! As soon as it’s over though (and all the handmade costumes are put away until next year), I start my yearly holiday panic. What to make, what to purchase, all those teachers!?!? I’m always on the hunt for easy gifts to make for friends, inlaws, teachers, nieces and coworkers. Here are some of my favorite finds from the latest issue of Sew It All, volume 11.
Stow & Go Tote – 2 to 2.5 hours
Totes are my favorite thing to make and give. If you want something more involved that your basic rectangle, the Stow & Go Tote by Katrika Scott is a great pick. I actually got to sew this sample and this bag is a quick one, but with just enough details to make it special. Different fabric combinations mean this design can work for nearly everyone, and you can probably sew it from your stash!
Rings of Fancy – 30 mins
Little baubles are the perfect gift for an acquaintance. Make a batch ahead of time and dress them up with pretty packaging. Bonus points: total scrap buster! And you can finally use some of your favorite un-paired vintage buttons. Maybe….
Fan Fare Coasters – 3 hours
Coasters may not seem like the most personal of gifts, but I have a handmade set I use all the time and they always make me think about the person who made them for me. Plus, these are a great way to practice and perfect paper piecing, so there’s plenty in it for you, as well. You know, in addition to the warm fuzzies you get from giving handmade (happens every time!).
Bath Time Buddies – 2 hours
I’m a sucker for a quick animal-themed project. And I know so many people who will be celebrating baby’s first Christmas this year – a Bath Time Buddy is the perfect gift! Or make a batch for young nieces, nephews or cousins. You could even make one customized with features of a beloved family pet. Or one FOR your pet! These are perfect for batch sewing!
