We’re so excited to continue our Sew Along series in the new year. First up is the Luzerne Trench by Deer & Doe. I’m a long-time fan of Deer & Doe Patterns: I find that their patterns offer interesting details, basic looks with a modern yet feminine upgrade and a great mix of classic and statement pieces. And the Luzerne Trench is no exception! We’ll officially get started with the sew along in February but today, we’re looking at trench coat inspiration. There’s still time to grab your pattern, fabric and supplies before the sew along starts…we’re hoping these finds get your creative juices flowing.
The trench is in itself a bit of a statement piece, with its sophisticated details and long lines. A neutral will mean your coat works with a variety of outfits. For extra drama, try adding a little length, for a maxi length, or mixing in a bit of texture.
On the other hand, if you’re going to take the time and energy to sew a custom trench coat from scratch, you might as well stand out in the crowd. I’ll be the first to admit that brights aren’t really my thing, but these bright shades are tempting me, especially that deep green.
If you’re like me and can’t leave well-enough alone, consider upgrading your trench with sweet details. Create subtle contrast sleeves in faux leather, add statement buttons and leather belt, make an impact with ombre fabric or smart color blocking or hack your pattern with a faux fur facing and trim.
And, be sure to join us for the Luzerne Trench Coat Sew Along starting February 5th! Grab a pattern here to get started on sewing your own runway worth trench.
