ball

MATERIALS
Six 6" squares of different textured fabrics
One large jingle bell or other homemade rattle (see instructions earlier in this article under "Tiny Tidbits")
Matching thread
Polyester fiberfill
Pattern tracing cloth

CONSTRUCTION
Note: Stitch right sides together using 1/4" seam allowances unless otherwise noted; press the seam allowances open.
Enlarge the pattern in Figure 7 onto pattern tracing cloth.

Ball Pattern

Cut six sections, each from a different fabric, and transfer the markings to each piece.
Pin two sections together, matching the squares; stitch between the squares. Pin on a third section and stitch between the squares (Figure 8); set the assembled section aside. Repeat for the remaining three sections to create two halves.

pin and stitch

Pin the halves together, matching squares. Stitch together, leaving a 2" opening on one side for turning. Clip the curves and turn the ball right-side-out.
Lightly stuff the ball with fiberfill, adding the jingle bell or rattle to the center. Slipstitch the opening closed.
