Pattern Terms to Know

FUSIBLE: Usually used in reference to interfacing, this means an iron-on product.

MULTISIZED: The pattern package includes more than one size.

NOTIONS: Items and special tools needed to complete the project such as buttons, zippers, hem tape, grommet setting tool, etc.

VIEW: Version of the item you plan to make. Patterns that offer choices in sleeves and other design details offer multiple views.

Measuring for Guys

Men and boys require their own set of body measurements for pattern selection:

  • Chest: Measure around the fullest part of the chest.
  • Waist: Measure around the natural waist over a shirt.
  • Hip: Measure at the seat, or fullest part of the hip.
  • Neck: Measure around the base of the neck.
  • Sleeve Length: Measure from the center back base of the neck, across the shoulder, down the arm and around a slightly bent elbow to the wrist.
