Treat your window
to two looks in one
with a reversible valance
that buttons onto a curtain rod.

Materials
Note: The materials listed are for an inside-mount valance to fit a 48"-wide window; adjust as necessary for other size windows.

Preparation & Cutting

  • To create a full triangle panel pattern, refer to and draw the panel onto pattern tracing cloth. To determine the panel upper edge width, add 2 1/2" to half of the window width measurement. For example, our window width is 48", so the panel pattern upper edge is 24"+2 1/2"=26 1/2".
Full Triangle Panel Pattern

  • To make the half triangle panel pattern, fold the full triangle pattern in half along the 22 1/2" length and trace onto tracing cloth. Add a 1/2" seam allowance along the 22 1/2" edge .
Half Triangle Panel Pattern
  • For the valance front, cut two full panels from one fabric, and one full and two half panels (reversing one) from the coordinating fabric. Repeat with the other coordinating fabrics for the valance back.
  • To reinforce areas where buttonholes will be sewn, on each full panel wrong side, follow the manufacturer's instructions to fuse a 3" interfacing square to the middle and each end of the upper edge, 1" from the upper edge. On the half panels, fuse the interfacing squares at each upper edge end, 1" from the upper edge.
