SUSAN VOIGT-REISING
Continued from page 1

Preparation

When using a conventional machine, insert a new ballpoint needle and reduce the presser-foot pressure to avoid shifting or stretching the fabric. Attach the open-toe foot for a better view when seaming and use a high-quality all-purpose thread.
Pin the fabric layers together with the pin heads beyond the fabric edge. Alternate the pins inserting the first from the upper layer and the second pin from the lower layer (2).

Pin from outside in, alternating between layers.

Alternatives for holding seam allowances include 1/2"-wide spring clips (found in office supply stores) and clothespins.
