Hemming

Fur hems should be 1 3/8" to 2" wide, depending on the fur type-the bulkier the fur, the deeper the hem.
The easiest hemming method is to zigzag or serge the raw edge and catch-stitch the hem in place, first midway into the hem, then at the hem edge (11).

Zigzag or serge edge.

For a fine finish on short-haired furs, finish the raw edge with seam binding and secure the hem with double catch-stitching as noted above.
For a fine finish on longer-haired furs, apply a traditional 2"- to 4"-wide bias hem facing, either premade or made from lining fabric. Catchstitch the remaining facing edge in place.

Lining

To finish the interior, add a lining to the faux fur garment after the fur shell is completed. For the best results, stitch the lining to the shell by machine. For areas with multiple layers-such as collars, belts or pocket flaps-hand stitch through the layers.
For a luxurious look, choose a satin or charmeuse lining and underline it with flannel. For very cold temperatures, add a Thinsulate interlining for warmth.
If the coat has no pockets, add an inside breast pocket to the lining to hold a handkerchief or ticket stub. For a touch of elegance and personalization, embellish the pocket with an embroidered monogram or crest.
