No Sweat Costumes

By Annette Bailey

Phone Home

If your teenager thinks she's well-connected, let her prove it with this phone-home costume!

Materials

  • Black sweatshirt and sweatpants
  • 2"-thick 10" square of white foam pad
  • One package 1 1/4" white iron-on letters
  • Two white, iron-on sheets for phone receiver and cord
  • One package 1 3/4" black iron-on numbers
  • One package 1/2" black adhesive-back letters
  • Double-stick tape
  • Pattern tracing cloth

Cutting & Construction
Cut ten 3" squares from the foam for the phone pad buttons.

Press one number, zero through nine, on each of ten squares and arrange the letters on each square as shown in the photo.

Arrange the foam squares on the shirt-front and hold them in place with double-stick tape. Hand-tack the phone buttons from the shirt wrong side to secure.

Draw the phone handset onto pattern tracing cloth (8) Transfer the pattern to the white iron on sheet; cut out and set aside.

Draw a curly cord on the felt paper backing. Cut out and trim the cord to the desired length. Peel the paper backing and press the cord on the sleeve front. Peel and press the phone handset to the phone cord lower end (at the pant hip).

From the white iron-on letters, arrange and fuse the word "Hello" below the phone handset.
