- Cut
sections 3, 5, 7, 9, 12, 14 and 15 from wool gabardine along the fabric straight of grain.
- Cut sections 2 and 11
from the ribbing. For best results, shape the ribbing as desired, then fuse interfacing to
the wrong side. When the piece has cooled, cut out the pattern pieces. From the remaining
sweater knit fabric, cut sections 4, 6, and 13. See "Cutting &
Sewing Sweater Knit" for helpful hints.
Note: If the knit garment you're recycling doesn't have ribbing, cut sections 2,
11, 4, 6 and 13 from the leftover knit. Fold the pattern for section 16 in half along the
center line. Place the pattern on the dress sleeve, aligning the pattern seamline with the
sleeve seam. Cut out the sleeve, leaving the seam intact. Repeat for the opposite sleeve.
- Cut sections 1, 8 and
10 from the faux suede along the fabric straight of grain. Leave as much space as possible
along one long edge of the faux suede so that separator strips can be cut from the
remainder of the fabric.
- Cut a repositionable
paper-backed fusible web strip equal to the length of the remaining faux suede piece.
Remove the protective paper from one side of the web; set the protective paper aside.
Finger-press the web to the faux suede wrong side, aligning the web edge with the suede
long edge.
- With a rotary cutter,
mat and clear ruler, straighten the suede long edge. Cut six 3/8"-wide strips the
length of the suede. Remove the remaining fusible web from the uncut fabric and replace
the protective paper.
- Cut the neckline/front
ribbing piece from fusible interfacing. Follow the manufacturer's instructions to fuse the
interfacing piece to the knit fabric wrong side. Cut the neckline/front ribbing piece from
the stabilized knit. Press the piece in half lengthwise, wrong sides together.
