Neckline Nuance
By Sallie J. Russell

Construction

  • Sew or serge the T-shirt front and back together at the shoulder seams. Repeat with the interfaced facings.

  • Right sides together, sew the facing to the neck edge. Understitch the facing and seam allowances. Edgestitch the neckline, if desired.

  • Finish constructing the shirt, following the pattern guidesheet.

  • Remove the protective backing from the diamonds and fuse them to scraps of the top fabric; trim the excess fabric. Fuse this diamond "sandwich" to the stabilizer slick side; satin stitch around each diamond edge (Figure 4). Remove the stabilizer.

  • Pin the diamonds around the neckline as desired. Sew the smaller buttons on through the diamonds and the shirt. Sew the large button or ring to the neckline center and embellish with beading, fringe or a tassel if desired (Figure 5).

Note:
If you prefer to appliqué the diamonds directly onto the fabric, add them after the shoulder seams only are sewn together, placing the diamonds 1/4" away from the neckline seam allowance (Figure 6).
