Wire Attire
Continued From Page 1

Large Bead Button

MATERIALS
Materials for "Basic Wrapped Button" plus:
  • Large interesting bead

  • Cut 36" of wire and slip the wire through the bead, letting one end extend past the bead by about 4".

  • Bend the short wire end so it lies along the bead bottom. Wrap the short wire end twice around a nail to create the shank, positioning the shank at the bead center.

  • Wrap the wire once around the shank to hold the loops together, then remove the nail. Clip the short end leaving a 1/2" tail.

  • Wrap the long wire end around the bead four to seven times, keeping enough space between the wires so the bead shows through. Anchor the wire by wrapping it around the shank every couple of wraps around the bead.

  • When the bead has been wrapped enough so it's firmly anchored, snip the wire end close to the button bottom, leaving a tail. Use pliers to tuck the wire ends into the button.

Variation: Incorporate found objects such as shells or pebbles in the button. Wrap the wire around the found object to create the button, wrapping until the object is held firmly in place. Make the shank and finish the button as described above.
