Have A Heart
T-Shirt

By Naomi Baker

Materials
  • Kwik Sew 2740

  • 1 5/8 yards of 60"-wide knit fabric with a minimum of 50% crossgrain stretch and no definite right or wrong side.

  • 2/3 yard of 3/8"-wide clear elastic

  • Seven 3/4"-diameter, heart-shape buttons (pictured buttons are from JHB International, item #93203 Antiq Pewter)

  • Two cones of matching texturized nylon thread

  • Four cones of matching serger or all-purpose thread

Preparation
  • Fabric Selection--For lettucing or ruffling, choose a fabric that has crosswise stretch, such as a cotton/spandex blend, cotton interlock or ribbing. The more stretch the fabric has, the more it will lettuce. A fabric with a spandex blend will retain its shape better after lettucing.

  • Clear Elastic--Clear elastic is soft, lightweight and has excellent stretch and recovery, making it ideal for soft edge stabilization. It narrows when stretched but doesn't weaken if cut. Clear elastic can be stitched through without breaking and must be stitched through to prevent rolling.
