Use a rotary cutter, mat and acrylic ruler to cut the pieces
for this quilt.
Fold the fabric in half with the selvages matching. Place
it on the cutting mat with the selvages away from you—
it’s okay if the ends don’t align.
Position the fabric end to your right (or to your left if you
are left-handed). Align a rotary ruler at the end with a
horizontal line aligned with the fabric fold. Cut from the
fold to the selvage along the ruler edge to straighten the
end (A).
Flip the fabric over so the cut edge is now to your left (to
your right if you’re left-handed), making sure the edges
still align.
For each strip place the ruler on the straight end,
aligning the desired measure with the edge. Cut the strip
(B) and reposition the ruler to cut additional strips.
For wider strips, place two rulers side by side (C). Or
measure along the fold, make a small mark and then
align the ruler with the mark and folded edge.
When cutting identical strips place a piece of tape on the
ruler—you’ll see at a glance where to place the ruler.
Glue small pieces of sandpaper or apply Clear Fabric
Grabbers to the ruler underside in random locations to
keep the ruler from slipping.
