Vent
Finishing |
||
| When a hem and facing come together at
a corner, such as a sleeve vent, jacket back vent or skirt vent or slit, a mitered corner
is the perfect way to finish the corner and eliminate the bulk. |
Step 1 Press the facing along the vent foldline. Press up the hem. Mark the corner point where the two foldlines intersect with a pin. Make a small diagonal clip through both the hem allowance and facing at the corner where the two raw edges intersect. |

Step 2 Unfold the facing and hem allowance. Place the facing and hem allowance right sides together, matching the clip marks. Note: The cut edges will not necessarily match, but the diagonal fold will intersect the corner point. Stitch from the clip marks to the corner point using 20 stitches per inch. |
| Step 3 Press the seam open over a wood point presser. Turn the corner right side out and carefully press. If necessary, trim the seam allowances to reduce bulk. |
