Flounce Bounce

Tired of pulling seemingly endless lengths of gathering threads to keep ruffle fullness even? Clear elastic comes to the rescue.

Flounce Bounce

Save time and keep your ruffles looking perky with this easy elastic method:
  • Measure the finished ruffle length and cut a 1/4"- or 3/8"-wide clear elastic piece the same length.
  • Divide and pin-mark the elastic and ruffle length into eighths.
  • Pin the elastic along the ruffle wrong side seam allowance, matching markings. Using a narrow zigzag and stretching the elastic to fit the ruffle length, stitch the elastic in place along the seamline.
  • When joining the ruffle to the skirt, divide the ruffle and the skirt into quarters and match the markings for even fullness. If the ruffle isn't exactly the same length, ease in the extra length.
