Gypsy Costume

Gypsy Costume
Entry by Gloria Kukuk

I'd like to enter my daughter's Halloween Costume in your contest. I am proud to say she came in second at out local Halloween Night Costume Contest this past Oct 31. My daughter Jaime just loves flowing dresses and decided this year that she wanted to be a Gypsy. I used Simplicity pattern 9966 for our inspiration. I pretty much went with the pattern's guidelines. The blouse material was a bit sheerer than specified by the pattern but it was the closest I could find to what was on the pattern package. She wore a black tank top to alleviate the see through of the fabric blouse. I made the corset out of black fake suede and it was the first time I have ever worked with boning. The skirts were bargain crushed stretch velvet and burgundy silk look alike. The purse was my most expensive item to make as I purchased fancy beads for the accent. The scarf was made from the same materiel as the blouse. We went though all the jewelry that both she and I have to add the gypsy look accessories. She was very pleased with how it turned out and it definitely showed in her big smiles. It was really cold here in Michigan this Halloween so she used a previous year's cape to wear on Halloween night to keep warm :) Attached is her costume minus the cape:
