How can I make a queen-size dust ruffle fit a full-size bed?

A queen mattress measures 60" wide x 80" long and a full or double mattress measures 54"x 75". You'll need to subtract 6" from the width and 5" from the length.

To remove the length, use a disappearing-ink pen to mark a line 5" from and parallel to the dust ruffle upper end, extending the line down through the ruffle. Examine how the ruffle was originally finished at the upper end. For a narrow turned hem, trim the upper end leaving a 3/4" allowance past the drawn line (5). Turn under a 3/8" doubled hem and stitch close to the inner edge. As an alternative you can serge across the end along the drawn line, trimming as you sew.

To remove the extra width make two 1 1/2" tucks the length of the dust ruffle close to the sides (6). Pin in place and machine stitch the foundation portion to secure, leaving the ruffle unstitched. This will make the lower corners slightly fuller.
