How do I make an actual size pattern from a drawing on a grid?

The answer is “one square at a time.” First you need an actual-size graph in the size noted with the drawing-- 1/2", 1", 2", etc. Large sheets of graph paper are available, but taping smaller sheets together can also be done. Note: Be sure to match the lines and keep them straight from one sheet to the next. Pattern tracing cloth with a grid printed on it can also be used--it’s just harder to erase if you want to change a line.
Begin copying the design square by square, noting where the sketched lines intersect the grid. When the design is complete, smooth any curves that look odd.
