Bulletin Board

WHAT YOU'LL NEED
Materials given cover one standard-size bulletin board (17"x23").

Fabric

  • 1 yard of fabric
Other
  • 17"x23" bulletin board
  • 24"x30" batting rectangle
  • 2 yards of 3/8"-wide contrasting ribbon
  • Staple gun & staples
  • Temporary spray adhesive (optional)

From the fabric, cut one 24"x 30" rectangle and one 9"x30" rectangle. Cut two 21"-long and one 30"-long ribbon lengths.

Fold one small-rectangle long edge 1" toward the wrong side; press. Position the 30"-long ribbon along the fold; topstitch the ribbon along each long edge. The ribbon edge is the pocket upper edge.

Position the large-rectangle wrong side over the batting rectangle, aligning all corners and edges. Pin the perimeter or spray the fabric wrong side with temporary spray adhesive.

Position the pocket wrong side over the large rectangle, aligning the lower edges. Pin the pocket sides and lower edge in place.

Center the bulletin board right side over the pinned fabric wrong side. Fold the fabric upper edge 3 1/2" toward the bulletin board wrong side. Fold under the raw edge 1/2", and then generously staple the upper edge fold to the bulletin board (A).

Repeat to staple the lower edge, and then staple each side being careful to create neat and consistent corners.

If the bulletin board included hanging hardware, nail each hook to the upper edge corners. Thread the remaining ribbon lengths through the hooks and knot the ribbon ends to secure (B). To hang the bulletin board, select the wall location and tie the ribbon free ends into a bow; adjust it so the board hangs at the desired height.
