Sew News: The Fashion Collection
Fall 2006

By Susan Voigt-Reising

Scenic Shortcut

If you add just one jacket to your wardrobe this season, make it McCall's 5188 (Misses' sizes 6 to 20).The details of this hip-length single-button beauty make it a welcome vacation from your everyday standards. Single topstitched front seams departing from the shoulder and armhole bank slightly to create a trim silhouette. Back seaming terminates at a nipped waistline in a double vent, echoed in buttoned sleeve vents on two views. In the third view, the tailored two-piece sleeve ends in an eye-catching turn-back cuff. Augmenting the style's aerodynamic appeal are angled pocket flaps on nonfunctional pockets. But the sightseeing has just begun! Lace flower cutouts play counterpoint to a menswear herringbone, a velveteen collar and cuffs beckon the eye from a tonally related corduroy, and colorful embellished crewelwork becomes the main attraction on a loosely woven neutral cotton.

...South of the Border
