3. Apron 25 minutes
This one-size-fits-most apron is perfect when serving a crowd. Look for novelty prints that reflect the holiday season.
Purchase 5/8" yard of 45"-wide fabric and 2 yards of coordinating 1 1/2"-wide grosgrain ribbon. Square the fabric raw edges, creating an approximate 22 1/2" x 45" rectangle.
Finish the rectangle short edges with a 1/4" doubled hem. Press under a 1" doubled hem on one long edge; topstitch. Stitch two rows of gathering stitches 3/8" and 1" from the remaining raw edge.
Fold the ribbon in half. Find the center 18" of the ribbon by measuring 9" on either side of the fold. With the fabric wrong side facing the ribbon, gather the apron to fit the 18" center section; stitch together with a 1/4" seam. Turn the ribbon to the fabric right side and topstitch in place along the ribbon upper and lower edges. Trim the ribbon ends at an angle.
4. Bread Cloth 20 minutes
Keep bread warm with a bread cloth. Yardage given will make two bread cloths.
Purchase 1/2 yard of two coordinating cotton fabrics. Cut two 18" squares for each cloth. With right sides facing and a 1/4" seam, stitch the squares together, leaving an opening for turning. Trim across the corners, turn right side out, turn in the raw edges, and press. Edgestitch around the cloth perimeter.
5. Table Napkins 15 minutes each
One yard of cotton fabric will yield four napkins. Preshrink the fabric and cut four 17" squares. Finish the edges with a narrow doubled hem. To make double-layer napkins, purchase twice as much fabric and use the "Bread Cloth" construction method.
