Cat Toy
Time: 1 hour
Keep those kitties on their toes with this flying toy. You'll need scraps of coordinating cotton fabric; a little fiberfill; a 36"-long, 3/16" dowel rod; and 36" of heavy crochet thread.

Using the pattern below, trace one bird body and two wings on the wrong side of fabric scraps, leaving 1/4" around each shape. With right sides facing, lay each traced fabric piece on a second fabric scrap. Stitch around the shapes using a 2 mm straight stitch, leaving openings for turning. Trim the seams to 1/8", and clip the inner curves. Use a hemostat or tweezers to reach inside each piece and pull right side out. Stuff lightly with fiberfill and slipstitch the openings closed. Attach a wing upper edge to each side of the body, leaving the lower edge free. Securely attach string to the middle of the bird's back and to the dowel rod (make a small notch on the dowel so the string doesn't slip). Apply a drop of glue to each knot and let dry.

Puppy Pull Toy
Time: 15 minutes
Use cotton interlock fabric or cut old T-shirts into strips to create this toy. Cut six 3" x 30" strips from the fabric and secure the strips together with a rubber band at one end. Divide the strands into three groups of two, and firmly braid the strands to the end. Tie the ends together in an overhand knot, sliding and tightening the knot so it's about 2" from the end. Untangle the loose ends. Remove the rubber band and repeat to tie the other end.
