One method is to purchase a new jeans pattern with the
low-rise details that you like and combine it with the highrise
pattern that you know fits best. A close-fitting, low-rise
style usually has a more curved waistband and shaped back
yoke rather than darts.
Place the new low-rise front and back patterns over your old
patterns, matching the crotch seams as best you can. Draw
new upper edges on your original patterns (1).
You may need to fold out the darts to eliminate them on
your pattern pieces. Then use the shaped yoke pieces and/
or waistline pattern pieces to draw new patterns.
Another option is to try on high-rise pants that you like and
then determine where you'd like the lower rise to hit you.
With the pants on, look in the mirror and chalk-mark lines at
the front, side and back seams where you want the pants
upper edge to end.
Measure the new crotch seam length and mark the upper points
on your pattern pieces. Draw a soft, curved line connecting
the back, side and front points and add seam allowances (2).
This becomes the new waistline. If the darts are too short,
fold them out completely to eliminate them. Make a pattern
piece for a shaped waistband using the new top curve as the
guide, or bind the top edge for a minimal look.
