Q&A | Without A Trace

By Linda Lee

Over the years, I've seen many changes in tracing paper. While tailor tacks have their place in hard–to–mark fabrics, nothing beats a tracing wheel and paper for nice accurate markings. I can't find an effective paper that doesn't smudge or fail to mark at all. Please help.

I agree that good tracing paper is hard to find these days. But there are two manufacturers in Japan that still produce great tracing paper that aren't in the mainstream notions market.

One is manufactured by Clover; it's called Chacopy. The package includes 10'x12' sheets in five colors. Check with your local sewing machine dealer or independent fabric store. If they don't already carry it, they can order it. Also check out the major mailorder notion supply catalogs.

The second product is simply called Tracing Paper, containing five sheets that are 100% chalk on paper. It's distributed by Professional Sewing Supplies in Seattle, WA. Call (206) 324-8823 for more information.
