My favorite costume was a cowardly lion. I heated brown ombre yarns around knitting needles in the oven and after about 100 strands was done attached them the hood. Painted the nose, whiskers, some freckles on the face! Easy but fun!

I had a skeleton costume that I wore year after year until it fell apart. It was the silky jumpsuit kind with the tie at the back of the neck and a plastic mask that cracked. I went trick or treating as a hippie when I got a little older. There was a fruit costume pattern that I made back in the 80s. I went as a slice of watermelon and my friend dressed up as a tomato. I’m still trying to decide what to dress up as this year, but I do know that I want to order a pair of funky contacts. I work as a high school lunch lady and the kids would get a kick out of them. I would like the adult pattern if I win, please.

Thanks for this opp and thanks for great topic. My fav was a cow costume. White leggings and tshirt. Black fusible lining, cut into roundish shapes made the Holstein patches. Stapled a pink rubber glove to the front to be an udder. (adult is my preference)

I never went in a costume for Halloween & never went trick or treating. I grew up on an Iowa dairy farm so my evenings after school were spent feeding the bucket calves, the older calves & milking 30+ holstein cows. But I like to sew and have 2 grandkids so far. So if I am lucky enough to win, I’d take the children’s pattern.

Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz. I made one years ago for our daughter and it turned out great… have always wanted to make one for myself.

  6. Theresa Nuehring says:

I have loved making the costumes that my grandchildren wear each year. and now they are growing older yes with how tight the budget we have used old clothes but they have loved each one.

  7. Lisa Blevins says:

My favorite costume was a southern belle costume that my mom made for me back in the early 70′s with a hoola hoop at the bottom of the dress. It was pink with hand sewn flowers on the waist and I thought I was the belle of the ball!!

  8. Jill says:

My favorite costume was the Minnie Mouse one I made for my daughter when she was tiny. It was so detailed and beautiful and it was fun watching everyone look at her when she wore it because it was just amazing. Took a couple of days but it was worth it. I would like the adult costume if I win and get a choice.

With 8 young grandchildren, the child pattern would be great. As a child, I wore my Dad’s old Navy uniform or the prairie girl dress. Last year, our 4 year old granddaughter wanted to be corn — accomplished with a recycled green fleece jacket, tights and a yellow spray painted egg carton.

I would like the kids if I win. I have made so many in all the years that I have been sewing. Most from recycled clothes and found items from around the house. Boys and girl costumes for my kids, friends, and grandkids.
