  2. Sharon spencer says:

My grandmother made all of my clothes when I was growing up. There were six of us children & times were hard then. It was my grandmother that inspired me & taught me to sew. She made me church dresses that could be worn to most any special place.

  3. DarSue says:

I remember just wearing nice clothes nothing really special. One year we (grandchilden) got to pick a quilt make by our grandmother & grandfather. Still have it; Lone Star. Imade a stocking for each of my boys when they were small.

  4. Shelly Christensen says:

I don’t remember dressing up as a child but I always made beautiful Christmas clothes for my children, especially when they were little. I would make matching outfits for my son and daughter, vest and tie would match my daughters frilly dress. they were so cute!!!

We always had a big open house Christmas eve for family and friends. Our dress was casual. On Christmas day we did dress up nice for church.

  6. Elise Tribke says:

We always had a beautiful Christmas at my parents house. Everyone would come dressed in beautiful holiday clothes. I made my outfits for Christmas (most all my clothes) because I wore a children’s size 14/16, and they were not the beautiful women’s dresses I saw in the stores, or suited for a Mom of 2. I was taught pattern making and sewing in high school. I made beautiful dress in taffeta and satin with hand beading. Now I make dresses and clothing for my Granddaughter.

  7. Ellen McCaulley says:

My grandmother always made the same outfit but different colors for me, my sister, and my cousin for Christmas and Easter. I fondly remember those outfits.

  8. Janice White says:

I remember a Christmas (I was probably 4, my younger brother 3, my oldest brother and sister 6 and 5). My mom made us all matching Christmas “jammies”, nightgowns for my sister and me and pajamas for my brothers. I remember how warm and soft they were. Dad took a picture of the 4 of us sitting side by side on the couch, all of us young enough where our legs were all sticking straight out from the seat of the couch. Each of us holding our Christmas stockings, getting ready to hang them up, put out the milk and cookies and wait for Santa’s arrival. My favorite picture and one of zillions of memories of a childhood with (eventually) 6 siblings.

  9. Becki F says:

I had a life size doll and my Mom would make us matching dresses

  10. Lorena Messenger says:

We always dressed up for midnight mass then home for a short night of sleep. I remember getting a white fur muff that was soooo beautiful- I loved that thing. As I write this post it is 16 degrees outside. I’m thinking that warm muff would come in quite nicely now

  11. Annette says:

I remember matching strawberry shortcake dressed my mom made for my sister and I. We loved them. She didn’t sew a lot sew I always treasured the things she did make.
