In April we are going to be stitching up the amazing Clara Dress from Sew Liberated. This is a wonderful dress, so lovely for spring and summer. Start thinking about fabric now! Think dreamy cottons, or enzyme washed linens, or maybe go for something exotic like raw silk. Isn’t picking the fabric for your next project one of the joys of sewing?

For Free Stuff Friday we’ve got 3 patterns to give to 3 lucky winners! Let me know in the comments section below, have you sewn anything from Sew Liberated? If you do the sew- along what type of fabric would you choose? Or let me know if you are a dress person, what do you like about wearing dresses? Kind of a free for all for questions!

And, we’ve got an Flickr contest going too! Sign up for the Flickr Clara Dress Sew-Along and you’ll be entered to win Meg McElwee’s book Sew Liberated!

Love to win the pattern, i havent done any of her patterns yet. Like to make this for church.

  4. Mira Terry says:

Oh me please!! My Mum always sewed dresses for me and my sister, and for herself. I would so love to make this dress – it looks just like something Mum would have sewn for herself!

  5. BJMarley says:

I do wear dresses occasionally, but I prefer skirts and tops.

  6. Barbara Rodgers says:

I have never used this pattern line before. I’m looking forward to the Sew-Along schedule starting April 21st.The Clara Dress looks very “me”. I am a busy seamstress by trade. I never take time to make anything for myself.May I make a quick comment about Sew News? I am a fairly new subscriber and I am thrilled with the magazine. It can be so refreshing after hours of pant hems, taking in and letting out of seams etc. Thank you.

  7. Grace Bader says:

I do like dresses. I just have a hard time finding something that looks good on me! I’m very interested in the Clara Dress and the Esme Top. :D

  8. I have not sewn anything from Sew Liberated. I have made a few things from Craftsy and knitted some things from there also. The dress is really cute. I would love to make it for my granddaughter.

  9. Michelle Hall says:

I haven’t sewn any of her patterns but was just looking at this particular pattern last night. A nice light cotton or pretty rayon fabric would be what I would choose to use for this dress

  10. tracy says:

I like to make children’s clothing because its much more forgiving. Everything I’ve made for myself ends up not fitting right! Guess I could use a good pattern, lol!

  11. Ali M says:

I haven’t yet, although I almost picked up their schoolhouse tunic pattern when I was at my LQS last week, but I wanted to come read some reviews of bustier ladies experiences with it!

  12. Madeline Chard says:

I have this book and confess I haven’t made anything from it yet :( But I do think I have a perfect fabric in my stash for the Clara dress….and I love the satisfaction of using something from my stash.

  13. Leanne says:

I have not sewn anything from Sew Liberated. Funny thing about dresses – I like them and like to make them, but seldom wear them! The last few have been knit because it’s so easy to care for and to wear.

  14. Banner Witt says:

This dress is perfect for some vintage yardage I have that is teal background with over sized black and white flowers. I have been holding on to waiting for the perfect full skirted dress to make with it. Thanks for the inspiration Sew News.

  15. Peggy A. says:

Dresses are not my style but my granddaughter loves to wear them!

  16. Carol K E says:

I love dresses especially in the summer. They are so much cooler and comfortable to wear.

  17. I haven’t sewn anything from Sew Liberated. I love this dress, it has sleeves. I have a problem loving my arms. I will have to visit my fabric store to see what fabric I would use. I would like to keep the vintage look.

  18. leila Schrotel says:

I’ve never seen anything from Sew Liberated before, but I would love to try it out sometime. I love wearing dresses, especially comfortable and flowy dresses. I would choose a really light soft cotton, with dark blues and forest greens., maybe add a little cream in there, I would also do a underskirt made out of a creamy cotton.

  19. kathleen says:

I have made many dresses for myself in the past, but am a pants wearer now. I do make many dresses for my daughters and granddaughter. They love dresses. And I love to make them.

  20. Mama Lusco says:

This would be my first Sew Liberated pattern, but I’ve been a fan on the blog! I’d love to try this in a lawn. Thank you!

  21. Sherri says:

I find dresses to be very flattering and it is so hot where I live in the summer. I love how dresses keep you cool and you can still look stylish and pulled together.

  23. Margo says:

I have done Meg’s Craftsy class Sewing with Knits and really enjoyed it! I also have her boy’s hat pattern all cut out, but have not yet sewn it up. This dress pattern is really cute and perfect for spring!

  24. Misti Tweeddale says:

I love the ease of wearing a dress in summer. One garment and you’re set!
(In winter, you have to worry about tights or hose to cover your legs.)

  25. Jill says:
