Join us here on the Sew News blog as each editor sews and reviews their favorite little black dress. First off we have Amanda Carestio, Senior Editor for the Sewing Division. She has a surpring twist added to her dress. We hope we inspire you to sew your own little black dress, LBD. If you do, be sure to show off your creation on our Facebook page!

Pattern: Melanie Misses, Modkid
Fabric: Robert Kaufman Laguna Knits & Telio Metallic Knits
Size: L
The Backstory: When I think LBD, I think classic shaping, easy to accessorize and perfect for a wide variety of occasions. For this project, I wanted to create something practical and versatile, with a fairly basic silhouette that could go formal or informal depending on accessories and shoes (and maybe leggings, since I live in Colorado!). I also wanted to work with knits. Although they’re not what you usually think of for partywear, I think they can be elegant. I’ve currently got a pretty healthy obsession with metallics and color so the Melanie Misses pattern was the perfect fit.
Any Adjustments: I’m always on team pockets but I skipped them this time for a more formal look.
Mini review: I love the fit through the top of this dress. And the side panels are the perfect opportunity to bring in a pop of color or an unexpected texture, and the blocking creates a flattering effect. It is feminine, without being form-fitting, and comfortable to wear.
